Portrait of Dr. Elizabeth LutzThe University of Mississippi Medical Center OB-GYN residency is a fully accredited categorical program approved for six residents per year. We are the only OB-GYN residency in the state. Additionally, UMMC is Mississippi's only tertiary care center, only level 1 trauma center, only level 4 NICU and level IV maternal care center (Regional Perinatal Health Care Center).

Our faculty include subspecialists in all board-certified subspecialties: Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and Urogynecology. Our specialist division, also called the “Women’s Health” Division, is our largest group. We also have a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship, with a total of six fellows.

Our didactic curriculum is extensive, and includes sessions related to wellness, diversity, equity, and even financial and legal aspects of medicine. We also have an extensive simulation curriculum, which begins during our pre-residency intern bootcamp.

Given the high surgical volume and complexity of cases, our residents graduate with the skills to function as a full-scope OB-GYN. Additionally, we prepare interested residents for the fellowship of their choosing. Recent chief residents have matched into MFM, REI, and MIGS. Thank you for your interest in our program. Please contact our education office if you have any further questions.
